Boston crowds welcome Tall Ships from around world
For a few hours on Saturday, it was once again the Age of Sail in Boston. The first masts to poke through the fog belonged to the 295-foot Coast Guard cutter Eagle. Flanked by fireboats spraying arcs of water in the air and trailing an enormous US flag, the ship rounded Deer Island with every sail set. Behind the Eagle, more bright white canvas forms and rigging soon appeared in the mist, an eerie and magnificent flotilla of 54 Tall Ships from around the world riding the wind into Boston Harbor...

Trading the No. 1 pick in the 2017 NBA Draft to the Philadelphia 76ers for the No. 3 and future firsts was a gutsy (to say the absolute least) move by Boston Celtics general manager Danny Ainge, especially given the potential talent at the top of the draft in Markelle Fultz. Celtics fans were upset by the deal as a whole, but one note from the Boston Globe's Adam Himmelsbach was particularly incendiary on Twitter. The Celtics' overflowing backcourt also factored into their decision to pass on ..

Josh Rutledge is quickly becoming the Red Sox everyday third ...
HOUSTON – It’s no longer unusual to see Josh Rutledge in the Red Sox lineup, even against right-handed starters. In fact, at this point, it seems most accurate to describe Rutledge as the everyday third baseman.Pablo Sandoval is the backup.Toight, Rutledge is back at third base against yet another right-handed starter. Sandoval’s at his best against righties, but Rutledge has started six of the past eight games, including five games against righties. It seems to be his position until further not..

HOUSTON -- Reigning AL Cy Young winner Rick Porcello pitched so poorly against the Astros here Saturday, one reporter asked manager John Farrell if it's gotten to the point where alternatives might need to be explored.  Porcello is 3-9 with a 5.05 ERA. "Honestly, there aren't any alternatives," Farrell replied. "And Rick is a key member of this team. We've got to continue to work to get it right. Because we see inside of every start that he's made there's been stretches where he's thrown the ba..

    Bruins' draft misses add up
The jury is still out on most of the Bruins’ key NHL entry draft decisions from the past couple years. Although defensemen Brandon Carlo and Charlie McAvoy have launched their careers very impressively, there can’t be any true judgments made on the success or failure of this crucial era of B’s drafting until we see what Jakub Zboril, Jake DeBrusk, Zachary Senyshyn, Trent Frederic, Anders Bjork, Ryan Donato and others can do at the NHL level. The B’s draft performance over the years hasn’t been g..

Half-century later, murder evidence still under wraps
Prosecutors have had almost half a century to figure out who killed Jane Sanders Britton, a Harvard graduate student found bludgeoned to death in her Cambridge apartment one wet, wintry day in 1969.The crime scene was littered with clues, but many were perplexing. Why didn’t anyone hear her scream? Why were her valuables untouched? Strangest of all, why was red powder scattered around the room, including at least a few grains on Britton’s body?
